Aloha!

I'm here in Maui alive and well.
It was great to see best friends in Seattle over the weekend. They kept the weather warm and sunny for me. How nice!

I arrived Monday late afternoon in Kihei. Megan and her boyfriend, Jeff, have been showing me around the west bulb. We went snorkeling, had a picnic watching surfers, and watched the whales play in the water on their migration to lunch in Alaska for the summer. As far as I can tell, I've never seen a whale in real life. It's pretty amazing. I didn't have the good camera that time so the flukes are undocumented.
I got the very first bee sting of my life Monday evening. Stepped on the bugger. Bloated my entire foot. Silly to have your defense mechanism kill you anyway (Can we make a metaphor here for ourselves though?)
This is a very vivid island. Hawaiian time is real. I spent most of today sitting on my own beach playing Ukulele, journaling, reading, and swimming. Life is hard yeah.















Anyway there's a sense of overwhelm and melancholy for me here. It's the beauty plus the overwhelming tourist hullabaloo. I miss Seattle too, and maybe it's the Russian literature too.
I want to share the scenery and experiences here but this is my journey- learning how to be more independent and confident in making my own decisions, learning skills, being alone. I've been pretty excited about it all, but then it will be a challenge and although not always easy I'm sure it will be very rewarding.
